Title: Powder shot landmines
Post by: Dragon on December 30, 2010, 09:10:37 PM
Has anyone used these before?

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on them?

Yes.  didn't work very well.  I had 1 in the store for almost 3 years before a tourist bought it.  If you were lucky enough to have a person to actually take the path for them to set it off by stepping in the exact right spot.  The effect wasn't there.  Plus why would you do that if you could buy one of ASC7 Claymores that you can set off remotely and you just have to get them in the vicinity.  But of course I would say that since we invented it.

Oh I was asking more to know if the powder blew up enough to kinda be like an explosive... mostly for show.

Your mines are nice Jon, no doubt about it...  I'm not sure how much use BB shooting mines would be for us outdoors right now.

The answer is No.  If you are right up on it then it you will be able to see it.  But other than that No.

I have experience with these personaly.

A former admin of midmo created them and had them hidden under leafs and such i stepped on it and when my foot came off of them it went off it made a cload of baby powder waist to chest high on me and i was covered!

And my brother pointed out that when we did some demo's for Homeland Security on Ga. we put flour or baby powder in the mine with the bb's and it gave the cloud of smoke with added visual of the bb's with powder coming off of them in flight.  making them look like they have a trailing effect with the powder.  Does that make sense?
So when we were in their mock city we set them up on the back side of cars and at enterance's of the buildings and set them off remotely.  It gave the effect that a mortar hit the side of the building or auto's.  It was pretty cool when we had 5 of them setup and the squads was trying to move around the city.
Oh the memories. lol

We have to be a little more careful with the mess inside and making sure someone doesn't slip on it.  But outside between the old building and New Building (that is coming).  We could definately do that.
I also do want to get it on anybody's equipment.

could you just use the powder that would be less harsh on equipment?

My thoughts were for outdoor use at first.  Was wanting some way to simulate a small explosion while moving through areas.  Like, ... while moving by a "disabled" vehicle... small explosions at various places adding to the effect, or simulating a air to surface SRM from a "airstrike" from an Apache in a specific area.

The way they work though, I doubt the things can be set off like that... unless remotely done somehow in correct sequence.

I've seen the non-Supercell Mines and Claymores operate before, just not the powder/water shot ones. ( I do not want to use water , especially when cold outside.)

I didn't think about powder being bad for equipment though, so that idea is now scrapped on my end.

I thought about it a little more.  If you were setting them off remotely anyway.  Powder wouldn't be a problem if you fired them away from the crowd.  But in seeing distance of course.  Then I would think if you strapped one of the ASC7's on a tree (or other object) about 4-6ft up it would be easier to see the effect.
I might try that at the next Springfield game and fire them remotely around the area.  Maybe get a good video of it.
This is Supercell's 10 year anniversary of selling these things.  I have 2 other projects in the works for our 10 year commemortive release.  I hope I get them done soon.

oh goody goody! More stuff!

I believe the one this conventional-combat airsoft lacks, is mortar/artillery fire. Nothing like running through a field with random explosions all around. even more fun is using a radio to call in fire a on a specific location.

Invent a mortar Jon!
