When I bought my MP5 from a private person, I was told it is a TM. The battery is located under the fore grip housing. When I look at other MP5's the battery seems to be in the stock. Is this battery location correct or has it been modified?

Probably. It depends on what sort of MP5 you have. An AEG can be rewired to move a battery location. My limited experience is the wiring usually moves the battery TO the stock to accomodate a larger battery.
If the stock is folding, collapsing or non-existent (MP5K) then there is not enough room for a battery. The foregrip is commonly used for an interior battery compartment.
One can also use an external battery compartment, such as a battery bag, mock PEQ box or a fake spare magazine.
You can also duct tape a battery to your gun. Not an aesthetically pleasing solution but one that works.
On a sidenote, a lipo battery is small. A previous owner might have used a lipo on the gun and relocated the battery from the stock to the foregrip. I'm not sure why someone would do this but it's within the realm of possibility.

It is the model with a full stock. there is a compressed sand block weight in the stock. the hop up assembly also has a white feeder and not a black one as in some of the pictures I have seen for hop ups. The gun shoots great and accurate, but it seems to only fire in a full automatic sequence. I am to assume that there is not a semi-aoto setting although the selector switch clicks in both settings. I am just trying to find upgrades and better parts if they are available for durability and life.

The gun only firing in full-auto could be a few different reasons.
However, my guess would be the cut-off lever.
