Title: My KWA was KIA!
Post by: porkchop on September 11, 2011, 11:06:41 AM
After a fun filled morning of toting and gloating my Km4, I made the dreaded mistake of taking my eyes off of it for two seconds and blammo! Pulverized! A few of my accessories were salvagable, but both recievers and the gearbox were a destroyed. Those who know me, know how I obsess over my guns, and I don't stop until they're perfect. If you have this affliction too, then take my advice: DON'T LAY YOUR GUN DOWN ANYWHERE, EVER!!!!!! You never know. As I marched back down the hill, I swore I could hear TAPS being played in the distance. A memorial service will be held this weekend, for those who wish to send flowers. Rest in pieces KM4.

Sorry to hear that.  Did someone accidently knock it over or step on it?  What happened?

It's never good when accidents happen and ruin beloved gear.

I can imagine what PC is going though over it.

But, I'd like to take a minute, just to tell everyone he's right on!

Secure your gear!  All of it.

Make sure it's in a safe place, or watched carefully.  Make sure your mags and accessories are in the right pouches and places.

If ya thing a car running over an AEG is bad... , how much worse is it, to have gear stolen, or just dropped, and never know the fate of again?

So, in all cases... protect what you invested in at all times.

That is also why I never loan out or borrow gear or weapons. Too easy for stuff to get destroyed with no accountability, unless it's a friend or someone I trust.

Amen to that, Dragon! It all started with the long march up up that God forsaken hill. We made it about 3/4 of the way up, when a few of us "old dogs" started to run out of steam. So Joe, being a friend as always, ran us up the rest of the way in his 4x4. At the top, I dropped my gear and sat down at the logs where we could have our heart attacks in piece. As we all sat gasping air and guzzeling water, Joe rolled up with the rest of the gang. Both dazed and destracted, I realized two seconds too late that he was making a u turn, and just as I turned to grab my gun, CRUNCH!!! I thought "Why, God? Why my KWA?" I wouldn't have took it so hard if it had been a JG. I mean, c'mon. Why not run over a JG, right?

I know...

I climbed that entire hill 7 times BEFORE OP Thunderball happened, and then another time carrying my and extra gear up it.

Hardcore MilSimmers even had commented, it was a bit too much. Thats surprising, cause hardcore folks, shout praises about being "realistic, and more Military" , which that hill ( all of our hills... ) make em complain and whine , just like those that aren't MilSim.  You don't get more " realistic" than going through that terrain.  And, most folks aren't carrying 80lb packs, on a forced march... and carrying or transporting other loads of gear like tents, poles, medical supplies, radio packs, AMMO ... those sort of things.  So, I have to stop and wonder... " When is it too realistic" after-all?

My thoughts had been, it's horrible... but if ya go slow, and try not to tackle it all at once... it's not all THAT bad, though it's still not that pleasant.
That's one reason we are looking for a new spot. The lower area is ok, but it limits what we can do.

I had to throw a Mission ( at least one) into the OP , that changed up the pace, and offered it's own challenges, both physically and tactically for those that like that sort of thing.  Now, It kinda back-fired in my face... on many levels.

I feel bad for it not going well, stuff getting lost and broken... and vehicles getting stuck and damaged... I also feel bad for it being lengthy and dull, or overwhelmingly one sided, and for folks getting camped at their re-spawn.

Next OP... I think we ( D-9) will print out an Operation manual for players , that covers all rules, and expectations, and ADMINs and their "powers" during the OPs from here on out.

Reguardless of problems, I'm still glad I made the trip down to attend. Any chance I have to mix it up with hardcore airsofters is what I consider as time well spent. The buildings and terrain made for a diverse challenge. There weren't any cheaters or whiners among the ranks, and everyone brought their A game. One of my favorite things about an event is checking out all the loadouts as well. Every game I play is a learning experience. This one made me realize it's time for me to get back in shape! After all, we can't all be professional alligator fighters, can we?

Hallelujah! I found a lower reciever, and my upper is ok. Only real gouge is my 2gx mechshell, that's gonna run me $90, but it's worth it.

... omg im so sorry that has happened to your kwa. I would like to say i do have my pride and joy aswell... she is my 552 and i would like to think i take good care of her. But i went to a field match about 5 weekends ago... while im running FULL SPRINT ACROSS THE FIELD(like a dumb***) i trip and fall and skid a little on grass. As i got my barrings i was trying to figure out what i triped over... it was my 552. For some reason while i was runing the reinforcements for rear site(where my bungy is being held) broke. So the rear site was removed from the upper receiver and just droped. Im behind a row of spools staring ... just staring at my 552.. wondering why... why would this happen to me. So not even realizing what im doing i get up(Keep in mind its in the middle of the field and my whole body is getting riddled with rounds). I walk over and pickup my 552 and hold it for a second the ref comes over and says "Do you know that your out" then i snaped out of it and walked away.

*1 week goes by*

So i go out to a field again(Same place) and i am useing my 552(whats left of her) cause i refuse to use my m4(300fps .20... not good for field). So a few hours go by and everything is working find except it doesnt feel the same cause im still a little upset. About 3 hours after the open started im running on the backside of one of the fields with some friends to flank the enemy and right before the "ditch" i jump and slide into it but down of coarse and then take cover from the otherside of the ditch... i poke my head up to fire and all i hear is *ZZZZIIIIINNNGGGG* look at my pistol grip and see that the bottom plate just cracked and the motor is trying to come out... So im hold the bottom of my pistol grip while firing just help my team... while inside im really Crying my eyes out cause my baby is coming apart at the seams... I got so sad at looking at i just held down the trigger and emptied all my rounds in my clip without paying attention... once i was out of ammo... i didnt reload... i called out. Walked back to the tent... asked someone for duck tape... and patched her up for the day.

So for the last 2 weeks i have been down in the dumps thinking about what im going to do... well THE AIRSOFT GODS ANSWERED MY PRAYERS... i just so happen to be looking on airsoft site for a new 552... and in there boneyard there was a 552 without a gearbox... so i bought it and started fixing my girl back up(still in the process).  THE END

point of the story is: Everyone should always check there gear before use aswell to make sure anything that might be a little iffy can be fixed before anything major happens. If i would have checked my gear before every game i more then likely would have spotted the crack in the pistol grip and also the lossyness of my rear site... but i didnt. Just watchout guys

You know, this moral can be applied to most areas of our lives. Prudence is something that has to be worked at, an effort must be put into it. Today I was playing my drums and a cymbal stand hinge had loosened up and tilted dangerously. I need to get in the habit of tightening up all my joints.

I've had a hard time learning to unload all my mags after games. When I get home I'm so tired I want to just throw all my stuff down and forget it. I've found that unloading them at the field at the end of the day works better.

Consider doing gear checks and prep (as well as break-downs and pack-ups) while you're on the field.

I still can't believe I was foolish enough to lay my gun down in the grass. As Napoleon Dynamite would say "Idiot!".  I used to get mad as heck if I dropped a mag or spilled a bag of ammo, but this one takes the cake. Stuff getting broken, lost, or stolen can really wreck your day, especially when you consider how expensive it can be to repair or replace it. I put a lot of effort into systemizing my loadout to prevent these things from happening, so when I realized I had just committed the ultimate "brain fart" I called myself every name in the book! For most folks, this is just a game. For some, it's a sport. But for a few of us, it's our church!

I lit 'em up with my freakin' KWA, what do think?! GOSH! lols

Sorry. Had to add to the Nepoleon Dynomite comments. I'm really sorry to hear that man. Those KWA Gen 1's were tanks too. I know I love my little CQB that I've had pretty much my whole 'milsim career' and it's still one of my favorites.

Almost finished. John hooked me up with a new shoulder stock, so now I'm just waiting on KWA to finish my gearbox. Hoping like heck it's ready by the 15th!

Porkchop do you think you are going to make it up for the Halloween Event?  We are doing it again on Monday afternoon.

Did you get your gun back together?

That's a bummer. I'm sure noob's think I'm rude when I don't let them pick up my guns at the events, but it seems you'll see more examples of "Murphy's law" in airsoft than, well, anywhere else in the freakin universe! I had myself to blame when my gun got broke, but if someone else breaks it, it's easy to be mad and blame them. Either way it's my own fault. If I lay my gun in the grass, it could get trampled. If I hand it to a noob, it could get dropped. If I loan it to a friend, it WILL get broken!!! These are expensive lessons. Take good care of your stuff.

Porkchop, you aren't the only person whom learned a lesson by that little tragedy.

I know Joe feels intolerably sorry for the act, and I as a Admin of the event... now make it a point to tell folks, to secure their gear, cause accidents can and will happen.

A wise man once said "Neither a borrower, nor a lender be." That's why I don't lend out gear or weapons and also why I don't borrow either. I am fine with giving someone ammo if I know them, but that about does it. I loaned out a Beretta to a friend who was new to airsoft, and he promptly rolled with it through the mud, completely jamming it. He also forcefully jammed the nozzle of the green gas tank in the seal, destroying it and then complained that it wasn't holding gas at all. So yeah, never again with the lending.

im free lending most of the time. I had some issues with "the project" at new dawn when i loaned it out to someone after i just got it out the shop. I still have some issues with it but working on that. Anyways i do believe that it does depend on WHO you loan stuff out to and what is loaned. For instance a mask or something attachable isnt as bad. But i do follow the logic... im glade to hear your getting better though with the gun.
