Thunder B Grenades
« on: December 08, 2013, 08:38:35 PM »
I have recently gained interest in Thunder B grenades, so I want to hear your guy's experiences with them. Are they good? Bad? And also are they usable at SoGo.

Depends upon what you want to use them for, Austin.  Some games count them as grenades while others only count them as distraction devices.

IIRC, they are too loud for So Go, due to the field's tight quarters.  But someone from So Go can answer that question better than me.

If you decide to get some, get the ones with the colored caps. They have a much more reliable detonation time. If you have a place that allows them and counts any grenade that causes a BB strike as a kill and so e that just call all successfully detonated grenades a room kill, they're awesome. The sound adds a form of realism that you can't really get from anything else like it. I personally add no more than 1/4 cup of baby powder along with about 100 or less BB's to mine. It will make the detonation time shorter, but you'll get a cool and pleasant smelling poof of smoke along with it sending BB's everywhere. The powered also doubles as a sound dampener when you run around with the BB's inside making it not sound like a baby rattle. Also if some dishonest $@"%% decides to steal it after you toss it somewhere on the field, you're not out as much money as with a tornado grenade.

That was mainly why I got interested in them is the price. I've watched a few videos testing them with bb's and baby powder but they didn't seem very effective. That may have been an older model though. As for grenade use in SoGo, is there a cheaper alternative for tornado grenades? They're awesome but not $100 worth of awesomeness to me..

The cool thing about SoGo is that there are cameras everywhere and no one can really get away with jacking one of your grenades. I use tornados at SoGo personally and have never had an issue with someone trying to lift it. Is that a cheaper option? No. In the long run, it is. At SoGo you have the ability to reload the BB's, gas, and re-oil your grenades after every game at your leisure. If you used a tornado just around 10 times or so in one day and it still worked, it would be worth it. Other than the tornados I can't think of any other effective option that is allowed at SoGo other than maybe an M203 with a 40mm shower shell.

Just ordered 12 new shells for my thunder b yesterday, so the timing of your question is interesting to me. Just like Metal(my hero) I own both grenades. I wouldn't throw a tornado in an outside game because they aren't as effective when they are on the ground. You put them on concrete and they do a great job, toss them in a room and the room is clear...... except at the MACC when metal blew both of us up. Yeah I haven't forgot that.

Thunder b's are a go to when outdoors. I also have the trip wire thunder b I use sometimes. Its works great.

You may also look into the DD kit for the tornado.

I have found a few cheaper alternatives to the tornado grenades but the reviews are hit or miss. Some work flawlessly and others have nothing but problems. It's sounding like a tornado grenade would be a nice investment. I hardly ever find myself in outdoor games where a Thunder B would be helpful anyways. If anyone has a tornado that they want to get rid of then I would be interested. I have no experience with grenades so I'd like to be able to get a taste of them on a budget.

You can rent a Tornado from So Go  for one of their events.  That might be the cost effective way you want.

I don't recall the price.  You would need to check with So Go.

I forgot that they rented grenades as well. I may just do that. Thanks Joe! I'll check on the prices too.
