I know alittle, how much are you planning on spending? What type of computer do you want (gaming, programming, surfing, business)? What kind of computer do you have currently (brand and model number)?

I have a dell latitude D810. Ancient Laptop. pentium M processor.

I want to be able to go on the internet. and the most demanding game i would play is world of warcraft (NERD), but thats probably what i would want it built around.

Idk whats possible.

Price... eh was hoping for $500... being as WoW isn't too demanding, i would think it would be possible.

*Edit* Looks good, but i forgot to mention, Looking for a desktop.

well as per what you wanted, this would most likely meet your needs its 479, and its from a company i have been ordering from for years. i have 3 acer laptops here at the house and not a problem out of any of them. http://www.globalcomputer.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6658189&CatId=4965

Do you want it to be a laptop or desktop?

Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. How many $500 computers last over a year without problems?

target practice that latitude or sell it for like 20 bucks to me...cough cough.....

That is not a bad Acer (for refurb) besides hard drive space. Great processor to AMDs are cheaper and better than Intel core series. the graphics are iffy but the CPU should grab what that cant handle that Hard drive is terrible. Not much room for upgrade on that machine either but i would buy it at that price. Good desktop replacement.

In the desktop range i don't know anything except parts as i build all my own desktops. Brand Name of desktops are pointless in my opinion. you could custom for 500... it would be hard to do but it can be done.

So I guess I should save up some more, in which case it's probably not worth it to me and I will just use the dinosaur and play playstation.

I think I payed somewhere in the range of $1500-2000, for my laptop back in the day.... Sad

i just put a build together at newegg for $481.93 that would last awhile. The weak point is graphics, ATI Radean HD 5670, but the CPU, AMD AthlonX2 3.1ghz,  would be able to pick that up. 3 gb DDR3 ram. motherboard is an ASUS M4A87TD (i have used this board before) 650W power supply and a RAIDMAX Iceberg case cause its on sale for $70 (it glows Blue)

i currently have 4 :D i just dont buy brand names, i get whats inside.
and, yesterday i came up with a custom design for a friend in the $900 range. 8GB DDR3, EVGA GTX 285 graphics card, 3.10Ghz quad core phenom. and 1tb of HD space. used a mid range ASUS MoBo.

Ok well I just saw this thread which i am sorry i didnt reply sooner. There are alot of places that you can go or have your pc built from scratch. I would suggest going to a sight that lets you build piece by piece and they put it together for you. I work in the IT dept Help Desk as a workstation analyst at our local hospital and i have gotten my last 2 pc's from www.cyberpowerpc.com you might want to check it out. Right now they have there christmas sales so things are cheap. The best part is you pick the parts... 4 years ago i used my tax return of $800 to buy a pc from them. I just replaced it 2 months ago and the only thing i upgraded was the graphics card and ram. While im on this note i do agree that ASUS is one of the best companys for MoBo out there right now... I believe that MSI is making waves on them while ASUS sits in there comfee chair. I do not agree with Nvidia Fan boys all the time... but i will say i do go for the fastiest card out there and right now ATI has the heighest benchmark card in the market. Anyways check out the website and see what you think... even check out the laptops...
