MilSim. One Shepherd. FTX.
« on: April 23, 2011, 01:16:31 PM »
Last weekend was One Shepherd's Field Training Exercise (FTX).  This event is the culmination of the spring semester of training in One Shepherd.  OpFor (One Shepherd in OD fatigues) was task with running an Area Defense blocking off access to a dam/ bridge.  The BlueFor (Marine ROTC unit from Mizzou) was tasked with conducting offensive operation to secure access to dam.

The photos taken do not belong to me, so I cannot post them here.  If you wish to look at them, the following link is to One Shepherd's facebook page.

If anyone has any questions about the FTX, One Shepherd, or MilSim in general.  Post them here and I will get back to you.  One Shepherd begins its next training semester in the Fall of 2011.  So if you are interested that gives you plenty of time to check it out and save up some money.  If you want to check out One Shepherd's website, it's in my signature.

NOTE: I am simply a student member of One Shepherd and gain nothing by spreading the word of this awesome training other than the hope that it will grow the MilSim community in this area.

Check out the pictures!!!!!!

i've been considering one shepard training, as for airsoft tactics, as well as i am currently getting myself in shape for the military. What is the training like? is it worth the cost? any general knowledge about it would be useful also.

netshark,  I appreciate the fact that you made your post actually about the topic and didn't just post something stupid that has nothing to do with the actual thread.

To answer your question.  There is no PT training stuff with One Shepherd.  So preparing yourself physically for the military is something you have to do in your everyday life working out.

The training is relatively laid back.  There isn't any drop and give me 20 or anything like that.  You learn different skills through practicing them.  In some training events you will have a classroom type of setting, but then you will go out and practice it afterward.  I personally think the cost is very reasonable.

If you attend a lot of airsoft games.  You are likely to spend between $50-$150 attending an event.  And it is usually only one day.

In for the cost of a One Shepherd event, you get:
--- Food Provided
--- Use of Night vision
--- Training
--- Use of Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES Gear)
--- Use of an AR-15
--- Blank ammunition provided
--- MORE

One Shepherd training is geared toward teaching you leadership skills.  So not only will the training help with our abilities on an Airsoft field but also in your everyday life.

You said you are going into the military... This training will put you leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of your buddies in basic.  A lot of what you learn in One Shepherd training, you will hear again in basic and even further into your military training.  Not only do you get the training from the organization but there is also a lot of "mingle" time in which you can talk with a lot of people who were in the military.  I have learned a lot at One Shepherd training events that was not part of the "curriculum" through just talking with other students and cadre.

If you are interested in going, I would definitely give it a try.  If you are unsure about the military, this would be a great way to find out if you want to join.  If you are set on joining and enjoy that type of atmosphere, then there is a 95% chance you will enjoy this training as well.

Finally, check out the website for the Programs and Courses to see what kind of stuff you will learn.  The Common Core Curriculum is what you would want look into.

The website is in my signature.

Well, as it is i am getting myself in shape in my everday life, and am currently down 60lbs, The courses look like something i'd really emjoy and if nothing else i'm sure could help me tactically in airsoft. What courses have you taken? and what is the rough course costs?

I have taken the WBC, LLC, LNC, LRC, and attended an FTX.  My schedule precluded me from attending the STX while I was in school.  Costs are between $50 and $100 for preregistration.  It really depends on the event you are going to and what it takes for them to run it logistically.  The stuff at the STX and FTX changes every semester.  Like you may learn about an area defense at the first STX and then if you take it again they be talking about Insurgent tactics and patrolling techniques.  But the WBC, LLC, LNC, and LRC are pretty much the same type of stuff every time.  So you only have to attend those once.
