New AK74U build
« on: November 13, 2011, 11:58:03 PM »
Finally got done with my AK74U build. It all started with a boneyard AK74U then I installed high torque gears, high torque motor, M110 spring, o-ring air nozzle, G&G piston and piston head set, and G&P ultimate accuracy bucking. I also modded the cylinder head by sealing it with silicone sealant, replaced the factory o-ring on the piston head with a #14 standard o-ring, polished the cylinder, resurfaced the trigger contacts, rewired it with 14ga copper wire, and to top it all off I did the 'Bushman Special' to the factory brass barrel. Extenals added were M249 style motor grip, wraped the upper part of the stock with OD paracord, added the Mission Spec Irene sling buffer tube ambi attachement in place of the left side only metal sling ring on the stock, stubby mock silencer with foam, aimpoint T-1 clone red dot sight, Magpul MOE RVG, and CNC aluminum RIS. The RIS was the biggest pain of all. They said 'slight modification my be necessary' and they were exagerating when they said that. I had to do some SERIOUS modification to get it on there right, but now it's solid as a rock. My trigger response is insane, and ROF is great. I'm hitting right about the 400fps limit with the M110, and at B4L I had an M100 in it hitting ~360fps in the cold. This is sure to become one of my 'go to' guns in the future.

The dot looks pretty big in this pic, but it actually only covers about 2-3MOA.

Here's a little free plug for Mission Spec. ;)

No they don't. I even chose THE lowest mounting red dot on the market and still it sits too high. Co-witnessing sights on an AK is almost impossible. I've not experimented with co-wintess too much myself. I can't really say it gained or lost me anything either. I need to do some more research on it and find out the propper way to go about it because some guys SWEAR by it.

No prob Reverand! Especially those little things that don't really cost any money or that can be improved without having to replace a part, I think everybody should know about that stuff instead of keeping it to myself like it's a secret or something.

Looks good, I definitely like the para cord on the stock. Does it still lock in place with it on? Can you describe the Bushman Special please?
haha you're right, I was an idiot last night.

Yep, still locks and everything.

Bushman is the callsign of a real world ex-Army Sniper on the Airsoft Outlaws team in Arkansas. He told me of a way polish and seal brass and aluminum barrels to make them more accurate and not tarnish over time. It involves polishing the inside of the barrel and good 'ole RainX. I've gotten several 'big bore' barrels to shoot with and often out-shoot 6.01's. This technique can also increase FPS. Especially in 6.03-.04's.
