300 FPS?!?
« on: February 28, 2012, 07:35:25 AM »
At my many times at Sogo, I've noticed one thing in particular that seems to escape my mind every time. This question is: Are all the guns that people play with at Sogo really under 300 fps? Now, I've been shot an uncountable amount of times. Some of the times, the Game master had to tell me I was hit because I couldn't tell. Other times I'd get hit and I'd scream out "AW C'MON MAN!!" My p90 was chronoed at 270 fps. It sometimes takes several hits for someone to figure out that they've been hit. I don't think 30 fps would make much of a difference. Can anyone shed light on this pandamonium?

adrinaline<-- spellcheck lol, people can get caught up in the moment and not even notice ive had it happen to me most people when told know that they have been hit but if you see them get hit and the look at the spot that they were hit thats a good sign to tell that they are not calling it but the fps limit is really good their.

depends on what your wearing and where you hit them generally people dont feel it in the vest which is very annoying.

Keasop and J are right, it's easy to accidentally miss calling your hit. It happens to all of us, and we all try to be good sports about it, but I'm agreeing with R&G on this one. Not always, but occaisionally I think a hot gun might slip in to the fight. Case in point, last weeks night game. I took a shot on the leg at full auto from at least 40ft and it felt like point blank. It happened to fast for me get a lock on exactly which gun it was, but I've been hit ALOT of times, and after awhile you get to where you can really tell the difference. John and Lynn work very hard to enforce regulations, and I don't want to think there's anyone who would try to cheat, but maybe the "green ziptie" policy is the only way. Ammo weight is also a factor. I didn't used to give it any thought until I broke Dragons finger back in '09. That's why .25's aren't supposed to be used in the cqc, but maybe everyone isn't aware of this. That also might have been why there was a bruiser in the game last week.

Let me tell you that we try all differnt ways in keeping people honest.  We find when we do just one way people find a way around it.  Like bringing their own zipties.  We chrono the gun and write it on the wrist band with FPS.  I told my guys to look at them and they said they did.  I see away around this way also. (not saying it on here)  But we also walk around doing checks throughout the game.  Not everybody gets checked for a second or third time even this way.  We always chrono if someone comes in and asks about somebody's gun.

Now with my experience of playing Airsoft since 1997 and doing it everyday since 2007.  There are so many things that can make it hurt or not hurt. (all from the same gun)  My first example with be Chucky's gun.  I have played with Chucky for a few years now and I can go through alot of games never thinking CRAP THAT HURT and then almost be through another game and he hits me in the arms, legs or even in my gloves and it makes me stop because it hurts so bad.  All being the same gun.
This weekend Matt hit me with his MP7 right around the groin area and his gun normally hurts a more than those 2 shots did.
You can ask my guys that I tell them when I hear shooting the walls that sounds like it could be a hot gun.  I send a ref in to find and hear it in person and then if we think it is still shooting hot then we chrono it and 99% of the time it is under the limit.

Here is my thoughts on why.  Again this is just by some of the evidence that I am using for these statements.  When we chrono any gun, we shoot it 3-8 times to get an averege.  And it will be shooting 275 then 285 then 282 then 310 then 289 then 285.  This is not uncommon.  So it makes me wonder that sometimes those shots that hurt I might have been hit by one of those higher numbers.  Just luck of the draw I guess.  Then add in people mixing bb's in a bag they have and they just load up their guns.  Now you are getting hit with .20's and .25's.  Those .25's add a different sting on them.  Not by much, but enough.

There are some other things that I believe happen but this list can go on and on.  Remember this 300fps is with the .25's.  So if someone is close to 300fps then their gun is shooting close to 335fps with the .20's that they are suppose to be using.
Again, if anybody thinks someone's gun is shooting hot tell us. We will chrono all of them.  Because we know people can sneak another gun in.  And with this post I will put another spark under my people to pay attenetion to getting any loopholes out of the equation.

Thanks,
Jon

Good point, Jon. I don't think you could sum it up any better than that if you tried. After my post I started to also consider location of where you get hit. Arm hits hurt, but hand hits hurt a heck of alot more. A shot to the side of your leg may not hurt as much a shot on the front of your leg due to muscle tissue, of thickness of fabric, or whatever else. In hindsight I realized it's easy to jump to the conclusion that "oh, that gun must be over the limit". For me, shots to my gut are the ones that hurt the longest, (no fat jokes please) and I've had forehead shots actually bring me to my knees. It's a real shame to think anyone would be sneaky enough to even bring their own zipties. Honor is a key fundamental to our sport, and if you can't grasp the concept, maybe you should stick to paintball.

Thanks for that Tony.

Good news so far is that nobody has tried to sneak another ziptie on a gun.  Or at least if they did they past the random Chrono check if someone reported they thought it was hot.

Honor is a big part of this.  That is why I always find it hard to think that people don't call their hits.  Not talking about those random ones you might not feel for whatever reason.  But those guys that continue to get hit and just don't call it.  And continue not to call it.  It just doesn't make it fun for anybody.  And trust me when I say, None of us like to loose.  Just call your hits even if you aren't sure.  You aren't really dead.

Again, never be afraid to point someone out to get chrono'd.  Even one of our rentals.  You never know if a spring has done something stupid.  I would rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks again,
Jon

Thanks everybody. I just wanted to make it clear that I wasn't accusing anybody and your points totally blew away my "theory". Some of my friends won't play Airsoft due to the pain. Now you guys have explained it perfectly, as porkchop said. Maybe I can convince them using your logic.

Ill be the first one to admit that even though you have gotten your gun crono under the limit that doesn't mean that it still is under the limit if it has been broken. I have besty fixed and repaired two times now the first time it was under the limit the second it wasn't. My point being... what my crew does every time we go in we crono our guns ... well almost every time. But my point being is when you go in if someone complains take it to jon or haley or anyone of the sogo crew and just show them up. I get in the fleshy parts all the time... yea it stings...*cough* joe *cough* ... got shot in the bottom while running down the hallway. Afterward me and the other person talked about it and laughed. Either way what im saying is yea it stings a little just go talk to the person and ask if its been cronoed i dont see why a good sportsman would lie

But getting shot in the bones in the worst...skinny guys watch out! Even my tush isn't safe...  :-\

Remember that hearing the hit is also extremely important.

Hmm, I guess the rule of thumb is that if it feels hot, get it checked. There are dishonest folks around to be sure, but I tend to think the best of people at SoGo. I've never had a bad experience or problems when playing there, and that's pretty rare in a hobby like ours.  Also, groin shots hurt no matter the FPS, not gonna lie.

I have seen my fair share of those, one of my next purchases is going to be a cup of some sort. I do not wish to get shot in the groin. it looks rather painful and I have no problem with never fully experiencing that.

Interestingly enough, I've always kinda wondered about this. I've been shot in the crotch a half dozen times with very little pain if any. I always wear tactical pants so maybe that has something to do with it...

But I have seen my fair share of people taking the worst of it, so I don't know.

I shall never forget poor Micheal when he came around a corner and Cody gave him an M203 from 10 feet to the groin...he screamed so loud the rest of us on his team turned and ran away! ha
