Youtube/online gun reviews
« on: July 30, 2012, 01:33:43 AM »
Picture this: a 12 year old kid receives a gun in the mail and after handling the gun for a few minutes, decides he is an expert on it and posts a review of the gun on youtube and on the site he bought it from. Off of his "expert recommendation", someone who is just getting into airsoft decides to buy this gun as well. Upon receiving it, it turns out to be a total piece of crap and a potential airsofter is turned away from the sport, feeling scorned.
Now picture this: an airsoft store gets in a large quantity of a rifle. Upon the realization that this rifle is junk, they continue to film a series of reviews making the gun seem like a great deal.
My point? Dont base your knowledge on an airsoft gun off of reviews alone, especially not reviews from those who have not had the gun long enough to give solid feedback or those who have something to gain from you buying the gun. If you can find a non-biased review from someone who has had the gun long enough to know about it and is honest enough to admit to its flaws then fine, fair enough but nothing can replace first-hand experience.

I do a lot of research before I purchase a new gun or gear. Between online reviews and talking to people on forums it can be months before i consider the purchase.

Im not downing on online reviews as a whole, im just advising people to be mindful of the person reviewing the product. One reviewer in particular, jarek4 as hes known on youtube, prompted me to make a couple of bad purchases in my first few months of airsoft. It wasnt until after these purchases that I learned that he was notorious for giving very biased reviews. I was just trying to give people new to airsoft a heads up because god knows I would have loved one lol

99% of what Jarek reviews he says is awesome. Jarek also sells 99% of what he reviews at ridiculous prices and apparently horrible customer service.

That being said, his reviews are somewhat entertaining, and usually quite detailed. But don't believe anything he says. lol

What I don't like about Jerek is you buy the gun then he uses it reviews it then sends it to you. I have heard on people getting broken guns that he wont replace.

Thats why i never like review where people have just opened a gun, shot it a little, then they do a review. I like Jarek's for the most part, but they are totally biased. So is CrazyNCMan. Don't get me wrong they do good reviews but biased.

LMAO!!! Good stuff, guys. The first youtube airsoft video that I ever saw was of a really p-o'd teen who'd gotten a UTG ak-47 springer from "StumpyAmerica.com (or something like that) that had basically arrived in pieces. After a five minute rant chock full of colorful metaphors, he then smashed the gun in his driveway, ran it over with his car, set it on fire, and jumped up and down on it. Not the most informative video, but entertaining none the less, (hey, we've all been there). Otherwise, the only ones I liked were called AirsoftReports, and were just footage of field performance tests, measuring range and accuracy of different guns from proven brands like Echo, CA, Marui, among others. I also like reviews of custom guns, rather than out of the box ones. I was wanting to do a couple of my own one of these days, like "This is what I started with, this is what I changed, this is how it worked, or didn't". I also have to admit, I was pretty stoked when I caught a glimpse of myself in the video Brendon posted from one of the night games a few months ago, (egotrip). Sogo's a great place to record battle footage, so I hope to see more of that.
