I was wondering if i got a M14 if i would have to get permission like as if it was like a DMR to use it in the fields or no. Cause if so that will affect the decision on whether to get it or not.

I would assume that it would not be considered a DMR/Sniper Weapon unless it had a scope. A few fields might even require it to be Semi only(full auto impossible), like blocking the selector or something.

But if it's a DMR you aren't allowed to use it in full auto at most places anyways.

If the gun shoots under 400 FPS with .20g then no you wouldn't need to get permission, any higher FPS then yes you would.

It doesn't matter if the gun is an mp5 if it shoots over 400 fps with .20g then it would be considered a DMR.

oh. I was under the impression that a DMR was required to be a real-world DMR on most fields. It's possible I am mistaken however. On our field We only allow real-world marksrifles as DMRs or sniper rifles.

With my experience with this exact situation. On many fields a DMR is between 400-450/475 FPS and must be a semi auto Only. I had my M16 shooting at around 445 I think and they just marked it different and made sure I knew the distance rules for having a DMR. Honestly unless you plan on staying back and taking pop shots at people. I would just keep it under 400 so you can get up close and personal. If you want to be an effective DMR you need to know effective distances of your rifle. Have it tuned just right so it can hit in a very small pattern at that distance. make sure you sights are set to that as well. Other than that it could be alot of fun getting to see your shots going and hitting the guy in the head. haha Also if you are wondering about a specific event they should have FPS rules and regs that showcase DMR specs.

Only time I have someone posted as a dmr/sniper is if its specail events.
Other games and such your just a rifleman unless it has a scope and then there is no just but to be sniper.

Dog is right on this one. Since we aren't dealing with real gun the fps play the bigger role in the decision.  But like Shaggy said also (good to see you on here again.  Looking forward to your visit home) each field event should post their rules for DMR.  And Single fire usually has to be locked in some way.  Plus all the other stuff he said. (Tired of typing and you would just have to read the same thing all over)

I greatly encourage the decision of the M14 man. I have a fetish for those things. I am currently awaiting a WE M14. I also own a G&G M14 SOCOM, and this weekend I'm trading some old co2 pistols for a CYMA M14 that I actually used to own.

I have been told by a VERY knowlageable airsmith and player that the TM version of the M14 provides THE hands down BEST DMR platform. With a good solid gearbox and good internals to go with it, he said the v7 gearbox will last MUCH longer than any v2 no matter what AND the v7 seems to have unrivaled compression and air seal. In my experience the G&G and CA style M14 gearboxes are stronger than the TM, but the TM is much more common and seems to get a little better air seal.

You also have to look at the fact that G&G/CA mags for M14's run and easy $35 each for hicaps. Most events limit hicaps to number of mags or even number of rounds carried in hicaps. In the case of OKI6, you'd be looking at only 2 hicaps. Again G&G/CA seems to be the more expensive route in that when you look into midcaps they too are around $35 and only hold 60rds.

If I were to buy a brand new M14 and want it for the DMR role it would hands down be one of the G&P M14's with the DMR kit already installed. G&P's gearbox is TM style and probly rivals the TM is strength and longevity.

If I may input one little piece of information.

From my understanding, DMRs are probably the most expensive gun type to create/purchase. More expensive then a "sniper" even. That is if you want it to be finely tuned, and actually effective. If you dont then you just have a hot shooting gun that will only limit you. Precision and consistency are key.

So be prepared to spend a lot of money (and time) to outrange and outperform those of us who like to keep it under the limits (as if i play), otherwise you just have an oversized weapon for the sport/hobby.

Arnt Marui M14's like 450 to start with? And with a DMR project, wont you basicly be gutting the thing anyways?

Actually I looked up all the parts with buying a used JG, Echo1, CYMA, AGM, or UTG M14 and even with trashing the original gerabox and it's internals the total build was less than $500. That's buying the gun, tightbore, G&P reinforced 7mm geabox shell, gears, spring guide, tappet plate, cylinder, piston, piston head, cylinder head, o-ring air nozzle, spring, and high torque motor. In my experience, your barrel and airseal are THE most important parts in a DMR. Remember theat consistancy is the key to accuracy and the better your air seal is the more consistant you'll be. I haven't got to try one out yet, but I've been refered to using bore-up kits for DMRs that way you don't have the NEED for high torque gears and motors. Also the Bore up kit makes your internals last allot longer in that you can get the same velocity as an upgraded gearbox with a stong spring (m125+) while using only say an M120. I personally have 2x DMRs and both of them are worth taking onto the field and always pay off.

 In my experiences a spring sniper is always the most expensive gun to make it worth taking out onto the field. All the really good snipers I've met and play with say the better sniper rifles are always around $1000 or more.

From all the research i've done, what you say ties in. i'm eventually looking into building a CA m24 springer. its gonna be a big cost though,

There is a guy that is part of the MSE forum that is a real sniper and he plays the same role in airsoft. This guy is the most rediculously amazing airsoft sniper I've ever seen. He uses a TM VSR10 and sometimes a CA M24. He says the CA is quite a good gun. I think his preffered gun is the TM VSR, but hey, if that guy uses and even bothered to upgrade his CA, then it's GOT to be good. Also he did say that in the CA he uses a 6.04 or 6.03 tightbore because he actually got better accuracy out of that size tightbore rather than the 6.01 and 6.00's.

Just a report, I've had my WE M14 for a few weeks now and I have to say it is probly one of the cheapest DMR builds I've ever done besides the cost of extra mags. Also this thing has made it's way to the top of my favorites list in no time. The recoil from firing this thing is near euphoric. Not to mention I installed a RA Tech 6.03 and KA hard bucking. Right out fo the box with the upgrades it shoots at ~475 with .20's and 390 with .28's. The first time I really used the gun I was at a weekend practice and I got several kills in the 50-60yd (150-180ft) range and even at that range the rilfe was capable of shooting much farther. I'd also like anyone else looking into the WE M14 that any TM VSR10 or Hicapa hopup buckings will work in this thing, and I advise that you get those instead of the RA tech bucking.

If ya wanna build a DMR as long as it goes under 450FPS , you can use it on D-9's field.

M14's I hear make excellent DMR rifles.
