Yeah, safety is a big issue.

Even on our field down here, we have old metal pieces, and some fencing, along with other things scattered around.  We generally try to avoid these spots for the most part... as it's been a slow process, and unfortunately, when it comes time for us to ask everyone that plays down here for a bit of help and clean up... we usually don't get a very great response from players.

Our field is very big though, and there's just alot to do, especially with a little bit done at a time.

Our field is basically a very large backyard with both open and inaccessible areas.

Please tell me that your backyard is away from neighbors and major roads. Backyard airsofting is not something that we support.
haha you're right, I was an idiot last night.

Well there's a neighbor but there's trees and a barn so they can't really see the field.

Just wanted to make sure, thanks for making that clear. Your game is coming up soon, it might be a good idea to prep your neighbor for whats to come.

Safety is no joke. Do not rely on someone else to do your job. Take responsibility and talk to your neighbors. You do not want to take any chances when realistic weapons are involved. If you can't manage it, asking your parents for help would be the right choice.

Clayton, Shifty is right.  The laws they are trying to redo in Ca. are because of people not doing their due diligence while planning and setting up a game.  If 1 wrong person sees this game and nobody has been told or not the right people have been told about it.  Cops get called.  Then you better hope and pray that someone doesn't want to show the police that their Airsoft gun isn't a real gun and points it at them. (again just picking it up and trying to show them) and they end up getting shot and possibly killed.
And it has happened enough where they are wanting to pass all these laws and rules for Airsoft.  Even this piece of property that I want to hold games on I will notify the County Sheriff's office, any neighbors and have the appropriate signage.  Even though I am pretty sure that where we would be playing on 60 acres nobody will even see or hear what is happening.  Again it only takes 1 person.

Always be saying Stay Safe in your head when planning things.  Whatever it takes.  That way you know you have done your best to watch over those who agree to come to your games.

This is probably a good discussion so we all know the importance of all these things.  I watched the California meetings on turning Airsoft into something that will destroy it.  These people have no idea.  And I just know we don't need those types of problems.

Stay safe everybody,
Jon

Well it's quite a drive for me is all...I don't really consider it my job either, but since I doubt anyone else will do it, I'll try to talk to them or leave them notes when I'm over there on the 18th.

And I've talked to cops while wearing my guns, I know the drill. I even got pulled over with 5 M4's in the car. You just be non-threatening and submissive and everything should go fine.

PS There's more neon-colored firearms out the than firearms with orange tips...lol They'd actually make it harder to tell the difference.

As it is your field and your game it is your responsibility. Unless I am mistaken on who is hosting the game. Telling the people in the area about impending games should be part of your check off list of things to do before you start a game. It would be wise to even tell them right before a game. Make sure you talk to them. Either in person or on the phone. people forget notes or they get thrown away or they never make it to people. This way there is no way they could be confused.

You know the drill, but does everyone that plays the sport. Do the kids that still don't know who is playing the game and who is a sheriff? What if while on your field the sheriffs showed up and one of the kids thinking the sheriff is part of the game. Points his gun at the officer and is shot in response. Now that kids well fare is your problem and the news will say "Local air-softer shot due to negligence." They will probably post the location he was shot and probably the group that sponsored it and hosted the game. Then they would warn people not to play and to avoid sites like this one that broadcast when and where games can occur.

We do Not need bad publicity because someone doesn't want to heed the warnings of people who have more experience. No one has told you Not to hold your games or that you are doing a bad job of setting stuff up. We are giving you the tools to succeed and make sure its a safe place to play. For you and your players. I implore you to take the advice given to you and use it.

PS. To the media it doesn't matter what kind of guns are out there and neither do the politicians. They will be seen as doing something about public awareness and helping out our children. So they will get better ratings and also get more votes. It doesn't matter if they actually do it!
