Possible CA state law...need for worry here?...
« on: May 02, 2011, 07:01:30 AM »
I was just reading a post from madbull Airsoft on facebook...a new senate law is being proposed (note- it appears)...to ban the sale of Airsoft guns...there was not a lot of info shared but it definitly got my attention...does anybody or can anybody shed some light on this...I know this concernes California and not Missouri (yet),but things get out of hand just because of a couple bad apples!

I know Missourians are more responsible and I would hate to see this happen here!

Any suggestions guys?

Well, things like this, unfortunately are controlled State by State.  It isn't federal law.

The best thing to do, is get active in writing your congressmen. Your voice is powerful, but only if you use it.

I doubt this will change much in the US for airsoft.  Some of the bigger companies that sell airsoft products are in CA, but even if such a thing passed... it's because the People of CA let it happen.

 Undoubtedly,
CA would be more inclined to fight a law that would ban Movie Props and Replicas used for motion pictures.
The majority of it's population simply doesn't care or know much about airsoft and how it's really used. All they see is what we see in the news.  Kids making trouble, innocent people shot... ect.

I wouldn't sweat it too much though, or worry about it too much.

I don't know if many people remember this or not, but at one point in time, most the States were having the same issues with "paintball guns". stupid people, were doing stupid things with them too.
Pulling drive by's with paintball markers, shooting mail-boxes and signs.

I bet a few cops got trigger-happy on someone swinging one around in public somewhere too...

and, it didn't stop paintball from having 5 million+ US participants annually in it's sport.

Dragon is completely right. I can't belive how much even MY generation doesn't care about politics or government. My wife even doesn't want to vote because she thinks it wouldn't matter either way. I keep telling her that elections are all won by adding up the 1 vote from each individual, so each individual vote DOES matter and DOES count.

My family has always been active in contactiong our state government when BS starts to go down. Sometimes you can really open thier eyes on things and things can be prevented or even changed.

Another way to really get thier attention is to send your state congressman (or woman) a small donation when they ruyn for re-election. If they stay in office, the next time you get on the phone to talk to them you can honestly say that you are a COTRIBUTING citizen, and believe you me, they'll REALLY listen to you then.

Dragonis also very right about CA and how they do things. On the state level, most of the voting power is gonna come from the large cities and in most large cities people are pretty ignorant and oblivious to allot of things, so thier points of view can be distorted way beyond reality. Because of that, stupid laws like the one mentioned get passed. And again like Dragon said, CA only brought it on themselves. I also agree that MO is a long way from anything like that happening here. We have too many people with too much common sense and a outdoor sports loving nature to let some crap like that happen any time soon. Maybe in the next 50 years or so we might have to worry.

Heck, I wouldn't even be suprised to see the federal government step in and say a bill like that was unconstitutional, just like they did to Arizona and thier illegal immigrant law. The bad thing is though, according to our constitution, the Federal government has absolutely NO right to do a thing like that, but hey, they've been trampling thier own laws for well over a hundred years, and nothing has stopped them yet.

I've been holding my tongue on this.  But . . .

I'm not sure how much weight an elected California government official is going to give the concerns of non-voting, non-contributing, non-California residents.

But maybe it's just me.

You may have a point Joe...but other than checking up on our names, how would they know what state we're from?

Here's something cooked up based on the Airsoft GI letter. Please email it to the senators! :)

Dear Senator:

Please STOP SB 798! It has the potential of causing all airsoft guns to be colored blaze red, bright blue, bright green, or clear. These are the same colors currently required for toy guns in the State of California, and will have the effect of causing people to believe that airsoft guns are merely toys. Airsoft guns are NOT toys, and should not give the impression by their color that they are. If they are the same colors as toys, parents and other adults will be less likely to supervise their use, and children and possibly adult users to use the correct safety precautions that they normally would use while using an orange tipped airsoft gun in black, tan, or other normal colors. This bill will cause much MORE injuries and potential harm then the current law and federal regulations for imitation firearms. Please leave the current regulations as they are. Airsoft has had a remarkably safe history. Please do not change this good record now by supporting a bill which was considered 6 years ago, and rejected by the Attorney General of California for the above reason.

Sincerely,

Here's their Emails. De Leon's doesn't work though(hmmm).
