I used to think that there was no way that multicam or any cammo patter for that matter could be truely 'universal' too. When I saw pics of multicam in different environments I thought oh great, a cammo that is mediocre in all environments. :/  But after seeing it in hot dry summer, wet and dark woodland, overcast summer, clear but dry winter, wet and overcast winter, and even spring and fall in all conditions I have to say that the only time it doesn't really excell is in snow. It has allot to do with the specific shades of each color that is used and how different light in differnt seasons reflects off of it. Crye did ALLOT of reasearch in finding the specific shades to use. Since the release of the multicam pattern however, there have been ALLOT of immitations come out that don't use the right fabric and/or the specific shades therefore some 'multicam' uniforms don't blend as good as others. So with multicam you're gonna have to really pay out to get a good quality set. I'm actually looking into getting one of the newer style combat shirts that don't really have allot of heavy cammo or heavy fabric around the torso area due to the fact that allot of guys (including myself) usually wear plate carriers and that area is covered most of the time anyway.

A-TACs is pretty good. But I try not to judge a camo until it's been out about 5 years. lol

This might explain why I hadn't thought it very effective.
I had at first thought it was because I'm slightly color-blind, and the stuff just stood out due to my abnormal vision.

It seems that Crye, TruSpec, and Propper make the best multicam. Probly the best one for your money would be TruSpec. It's higher than proper but cheaper than Crye. I've had both TruSpec and Propper and both have great color quality, but I believe the TruSpec has better sewing quality and fabric quality. Also all three companies offer thier multicam in varying cotton to nylon ratios as well.
