Change of Eye-Pro
« on: August 07, 2012, 01:25:36 PM »
I have begun the switch to full time contacts which means I can drop my Revision Desert Locusts and pick up some slimmer Goggles. I'm looking for suggestions of good sunglasses style eye-pro. (I mostly play Field and Milsim so full face protection isn't a priority)
Basically, what do you use and why do you use them?

Now are you trying to break away from the goggles all together or are you trying to just make it more sliming to your face?

I use the ESS pro goggles myself. I use them because of the fan on top i can honestly say that there is nothing better that i have tried that i like. But since your in rolla you might want to stop by Fastenal and talk to brian about his eye pro. He has a really slim glasses look to his. I will see if i can get him to post his eye pro on here for you

I'm not a huge fan of big dust style goggles (though the fan in my revisions rocks). I'm looking at the Slimmer style for field play as they are more comfortable and easier to aim down sights.
In an Indoor situation I prefer my bigger goggles and a face shield but for field I want to go light ans cool. If you could get those pictures that would be awesome.

Check out their website and see if there is anything you like. They might have it in stock at SoGo or they could order you the pair you want.

Many D9 members sport Wiley's X SG1's and love them. I used to run them as well until they disapeared for whatever reason and when I replaced my eyepro I went with the AirRages instead. I have to say that I like them much more than the SG1's for not fogging, comfort, and they just plain look better.

Buy the best when it comes to protecting your eyes, mouth, or hands. Spending the extra now will save you money in the long run. Buy the pair you like/want and enjoy them for the rest of your airsoft days.

Shifty has a point... If you buy cheap protection... you might pay for it in the long run. I know someone up here in STL that bought a cheap mesh goggles and while it was running on the field he triped and didnt even notice it but bent and broke the mesh metal. A round actually hit him on the left of his left eye thru the mesh. I myself did this aswell and it didnt work out either i had to replace mine and bought the ESS pro goggles. I spent alot on them but i know they work and are really good at protecting what needs protecting. Now all i have to do is find something for my face.  :P

Yeah. Understand the cost of Eye-pro. My $120 Revision kit is the most expensive piece of gear (besides guns) I have. I don't risk it on the eye-pro.

I use the Wiley X Jake Series. They are foam sealed around the eyes, have vent ports top and bottom, and you can have you Rx installed in them. For a bit of extra money you can buy them as a ballistic rated lens and have them tinted, which I did knowing that i would be shot at. I find mine to be comfortable on and off the field. I may later buy the SG-1 series because they have a strap that attaches to the glasses to make them like a goggle, instead of arms like glasses

Shifty's right, it doesn't pay to compromise when it comes to protecting your eyes. I want a pair of Wileys so bad it hurts, but with me being the sole breadwinner in a family of five, my current budget just simply cannot afford them. If you're in a constant cash crunch like me, it can be a real chore trying to find reliable, low end eye protection. The best cheap product I've found are tree cutters goggles called "BUGZ". They're basically a thickly padded pair of swimming goggles with tough mesh lenses. They've got an elastic strap and won't fall off, the foam fits comfy, so you hardly know they're there, and I've personally tested them from 2ft away w/.20g at 400fps with NO mesh failure! They're both OSHA and ANSI certified, and at only $15 a pair, they won't break the bank.

A while back a guy at the gun show sold me a few pairs of used ESS goggles for $10-$15 a pair. I have no complaints other than minor fogging issues.
